We sprouted some peas seeds inside our classroom using a paper towel and water. After a week we planted the peas into pots to grow on our window sill. They are growing at an amazing rate and we will be able to take them home later in the term so they can go in our gardens at home.

Gardening week 3
Saturday, November 1st, 2008About us
Thursday, October 16th, 2008We are a year 6 (with four year 5 students) class of predominantly Maori and Island students ranging in age from about 9 and a half to 11 years of age. Most of us have had either no or very limited experience of gardening, so we are learning as we go…our teacher Mr Baird has always had an organic vegetable garden, so hopefully he knows what to do!
Gardening is another way that we can learn things like measurement (maths), time management, working with nature…not against, working co-operatively, and planning.

We then decided to sow peas seeds along the fence line. We dug in two bags of compost, and pushed in the pea seeds that we had soaked in water for 20 minutes prior to planting….this gives the seeds ample water to get a head start in life (we hope).
